A real quick entry because this internet cafe is closing in a minute and the z and y keys are back to being switched and it's incredibly annoying
Today was pretty much too incredible for words. The night train was great, I got a whole compartment to myself and slept really well except for the huge dayback I was clutching that crowded me out of the seat bed thing. Then I got to Vienna in the morning and ran around to approximately sixteen art museums! Actually just three but they held enough awesome to fill sixteen. The first one had Gustav Klimt’s “The Kiss” and “Judith,” which is what convinced me to squeeze Vienna in before meeting Jovanna and it was so amazingly worth it. And then at the second art museum I found out all about this other amazing Viennese artist who’s a lot like Klimt except he came to Berkeley in the 80’s to help with the Berkeley Art Museum so that makes him much better. And he designed his own museum and the place was crazy! The floors and walls are all rolling but it really works and doesn’t make you motion sick at all. Pictures coming forthwith. Also sorry if there are a million more typos than usual, the whole z-y thing is throwing me all off balance.
Oh also! This has nothing to do with anything but my brother just bought tickets to come visit me! And my parents are getting theirs soon too! The first weekend in October, awesome. And Duncan just got his tickets for a couple weeks from now! Almost too much excitment for one person to handle. Uh oh, the internet’s almost closing.
The last art museum was actually just a little display on dreams and trauma (very Freudian) and it was so insane. They had those sculptures that just look like piles of junk but then they shine a light on them and they make intricate silhouettes of people! Awesome. Pictures of this also coming in a minute.
Okay real quick, the other things that happened today to make it completely perfect: I bought a fisheye camera for forty euros because I keep wishing I had a wider lens and you can’t get much wider than 170°. I bought my first rambutan, which I’ve been trying to get since this guy from Albany told us in Cambodia that they’re on eof the best fruits but all the ones I saw looked all insectey and rotten and diseasey when we were in Asia. And finally, I just saw my first movie alone, which was “Knocked Up” and it was so funny my singular lung hurt from laughing so hard. Plus I was lucky to find a place playing it in English because it doesn’t come out in European languages until like October. Awesome! Also I mastered the Vienna public transportation system in ten hours, which is no mean trick because all their maps are completely useless. Oh, to be back in Paris’s metro system. Okay, now to post a couple pictures which I’ll explain later!
Oh and one more thing! When I was horrendously lost on the subway this morning, I got off to explore this crazy-looking building but I couldn’t see how to get into it and no one around who might know spoke English, so I just wrote it off as an eternal mystery, but then it turned out to be a water treatment facility designed by the same guy who designed his own art museum! How awesome.
