I'm in Rome, wasting all my time on sleeping in!
But oh man, sleeping in is one of the best things in the world. Especially after taking a horrendous night train wherein there aren’t enough seats even though you reserved one because someone is using yours as a footrest and it’s not worth climbing over five people to wake him up so you just try and sleep on the floor outside the bathroom even though it’s gross but at least you have enough space to stretch out until this huge stinky guy comes and stinks you out and then you have to crowd into the aisle and it is one of the worst nights ever. Here, I have a picture!
This is before like thirty other people came in and we all sat in the aisle and I’m still tired even after sleeping for 13 hours last night. But Rome is awesome! Yesterday I went to the Coliseum and the Trevi Fountain and I ate what is supposed to be the best gelato in the world and some freaking awesome gnocchi. I thought I was being all spontaneous by asking the gelato guy to surprise me with the flavors but then he gave me fig, honey, and ginger, which are the three flavors recommended by the guide book so what I actually got was the diametric opposite of spontaneity. But it was still delicious. But not like, mind-blowingly delicious? So I think I better go back later and get some chocolatier ones so it can live up to its best gelato in the world reputation. Okay, back to the pictures:
This is an iron gate from the Belfry in Bruges. There’s something really special about it, like maybe it’s the oldest wrought-iron gate in the world? But now I’ve forgotten t so basically I’m useless.
These are some gingerbread-housey looking restaurants next to the Belfry. This is pretty much what all of Bruges looks like. Adorable.
A huge cicada from Japan. They were everywhere and it was both kind of gross and kind of cool. Jono says there’s a certain kind of bug like this where you can press on its back and it’ll pick something up and then you press in a different spot and it releases. Neat!
This is some water in Kyoto that’s about to go into the aqueduct. I was trying to find this “Path of Enlightenment” thing that the guide book talks about but then it got too hot and sweaty and I gave up. But that’s when I met Duncan so it’s okay!
And this is the aqueduct! It’s big and pretty. Yep.
This is a temple in Kyoto. Just in case you didn’t get enough of these pictures the first time!
A zen garden! How are there no footprints?! It boggles the mind.
This is Duncan being freaking adorable at Wagamama. Yeah, sorry these are all out of order. Maybe I’ll organize them someday but it’s doubtful.
This is us at the Notting Hill Carnival. You can’t see in this picture but the first boat behind us is named “Snark,” tee hee. Also notice Duncan’s awesome shirt that has a guy riding a dinosaur saying “To the disco!” Perfect.
The British Museum! One of the best places in the world! Perhaps second only to the disgustingly cute floor in Kiddieland in Tokyo.
A ridiculously huge mushroom at this awesome little market near Duncan’s apartment. Or “flat,” if you will.
A pretty building near the London Bridge. Neat.
And we’re back to Bruges! Just a cute street.
A lady in Bruges making lace. It looks like she’s being all slow and concentratey in this picture, but most of the time it looked like she was just shuffling the wooden things around and then it came out as a beautiful pattern! Awesome.
This is a tunnel in the Mirabella Gardens in Salzburg, where they filmed the “Do a Deer” song. They all run through this tunnel at one point so uh, I guess that’s neat.
The Pegasus Fountain in the gardens. I guess they dance around this at some point in the song? Wish I’d watched the movie before going to all these places but the tour was still great. The guide was really funny because he’d say things like “It’s certainly our favorite movie, it gave us jobs!” But in a silly voice so I don’t know, you had to be there.
A castle where some shots were filmed. This castle is special because the Prince-Archbishop who built it had a weird sense of humor so he had these special dining chairs put in for his guests where he could make it look like they’d wet themselves and since people weren’t allowed to stand up until the Prince-Archbishop stood up, they just had to put up with it. What a great guy to have leading your country. Oh man, but it’s not like I can talk.
The fanciest McDonald’s sign in the world! Probably not, but still freaking fancy.
A ceiling in Westminster Abbey! You weren’t allowed to take pictures in the cathedral but this was a little separate part and also no one was looking, haw.
And those are the pictures! Okay, I’m gonna go get some 1:30 breakfast. Yay sleeping in!

« Today I am 22!» A real quick entry because this internet cafe is closing in a minute and the z and y keys are back to being switched and it's incredibly annoying
I think the fountain is from the very end of the song, where Julie Andrews goes up 3 octaves on the last note. Either that or the one she splashes during “I Have Confidence.” (Yes, I watched that movie too many times as a kid.)
