Yay winter break! Yaaaaay!
Welp, it’s been a solid three months, so I figured it was about time to update the blag. Lots of things happened this semester! One thing is I made this wee lit’l video for my animation class final project:
I had big plans of making a whole post about what goes into making a 3D animation (because it makes me so saddddd when people say “doesn’t the computer do all the hard stuff for you?” even though that’s kind of what I thought before I started learning about animation), but then I overdosed on working on it and can’t really bring myself to think about it right now. But one thing that I can do is show the shading step since I happened to have these videos showing the before and after already made:
Yay! So you can see how the shading step takes everything from being smooth and gray to having surface displacement and color and shininess. Okay, that doesn’t really show how much work goes into shading (approximately three sleepless nights!), but at least it shows what shading does.
Winter break has been pretty much amazing so far. I watched the entire first season of Jersey Shore in my jammies, so… yeah, I’m pretty proud of the direction my life is headed. Also I’ve been cooking and knitting and I got up at 7:30 to walk around the mall with my parents! Yessss. Transition to spinsterhood almost complete! And on Sunday, David and I are going to Europe for two weeks! As long as our flight isn’t canceled for weather. And hopefully we don’t lose too many toes to frostbite. We’re going to Paris, London, and Barcelona, so I’m already stretching my stomach out in anticipation!
In other news, Jovanna and Suzanne visited me in Texas after all my classes were done! It was such a magical weekend. Here we are dressed up outside a Whataburger because we spent a long time getting costumes for a science-themed costume party (Jovanna’s a botanist, Suzanne’s a wizard, and I’m a Jedi) that got canceled and then the hosts insisted we meet them at a bar still dressed up.
And here they are being SO FREAKING EXCITED that we are eating at a real live Sonic Drive-in where the waitress brought us our food on rollerskates!
There were two waitresses working, one on rollerskates and one just walking like a lame-o and we decided that if the walking one tried to serve us, we were going to roll up the window until the rollerskating one brought us our food, but fortunately it didn’t come to that.
Oh also, here’s Suzanne with her wizard hat!
She looked all over Target for a wizard hat and even asked an employee who said they had none, and it was pretty sad until she came running up to us with this Christmas decoration on her head. She was like, “And they said they didn’t have wizard hats!” and the employee she had asked was walking by and just stared at us. Awesome.
They also insisted we go to A&M’s George Bush Presidential Library, which has a whole museum dedicated to George Bush and it’s every bit as glorious as you’d expect it to be. One guy on yelp wrote a two screen-long paean about it, which you should really check out if you have a free half hour. And (spoiler alert!) that surprise he’s so excited about that he says he’ll let you find at the end of the walking path? George and Barbara’s future grave site. Yeahhh….
Okay, finally, some pretty roughage!
And with that, I sleep!
