There's finally time to write a blog entry because everything closes at 7 in Darjeeling!
Also it is freezing and there are no heaters anywhere! I don’t know how people live here. Probably by not being namby-pamby Americans and also by wearing two sweaters all the time. But we did take the train today and it was exactly like the movie kind of! Okay not really, but it was neat. The train tracks are in the road and they go from one side of the road to the other, so cars have to stop for the train and it makes you feel powerful. Awesome. Okay, pitchures:
This is Eric after we missed our first flight! We went all the way to the airport even though we knew we weren’t going to make it because we got up two hours late, but we still only missed the flight by a few minutes, so I guess that’s neat or something. Then we switched to the next day’s flight for only $150, yaay! I was so sure we were going to have to buy all new tickets because it was totally our fault, so neat. Also, when we went to the airport the next day, we kept being like “this is the closest we’ve ever been to India in all the times that we’ve tried to go hur hur hurr.” Also, sorry if this is riddled with typos, but my fingers are turning into frozen stumps and also this keyboard just inserts random spaces when I don’t touch any keys anywhere near the spacebar? Stop it.
This is Eric and me next to the Lotus Blossom temple! We had to stand far apart because you’re not allowed to touch in India unless you are two guys, according to Catie.
This is the India Gate. It commemorates Indian soldiers lost in World War I. Yup.
This is Catie showing Eric how to put on the blanket shawl she got for him! It is awesome. She also got me a punjabi suit but then I left it on a boat along with my sneakers and it was sad.
Yup.
This is like the only picture I got when we visited Jan! Lame! I don’t even have any pictures of her because I was vomitocious the whole time. Here is a picture of Jan just so’s you know what she looks like if you don’t know her:
She is bringing a human-sized suitcase full of “the bear kind” of toilet paper back to India because any toilet paper is like impossible to find here and what you do find is basically the wax paper they put on the back of froot by the foot.
These are some palm trees in Kerala. Yup.
A creepy spider that wouldn’t leave us alone.
This is some of our boat from when we took a backwater boat ride in Kerala, which is totally like the thing to do. It was pretty neat, but also super weird because you’re riding in a boat through people’s like, front yards while they do laundry and stuff and it’s embarrassing.
A snake charmer! That snake kept trying to bite him but he didn’t care.
Okay, I think Eric is getting super bored so we’re going to try and find a restaurant that isn’t closed. Later!
