Today I am 22!
It’s m’birthday! Thanks a lot for all the happy birthday comments! I really liked the song, Grandpa and Grandma!
I’m in London and I just went to the Tate Gallery and saw almost all of my favorite Dali paintings and it was so awesome!! I drew a comic surrounded by spectacular Dali paintings, which I’ve wanted to do since I got to Europe. I’m gonna go meet up with Duncan in a minute so I’ll keep this short.
Brugge was pretty awesome. Or made of awesome, as Noaa so eloquently put it. I saw some of Jesus’s blood but then I got yelled at by a priest for just looking at it with reverent awe instead of praying over it. I’d wanted to make the sign of the cross so I could pretend to be praying but I couldn’t remember if you touch your left shoulder or your right shoulder first. Does it even matter? I don’t know, I’m not Catholic. Then I went to another church and saw Michaelangelo’s Madonna and Child, which was my first ninja turtle artwork in Europe. Also I climbed 366 steps to the top of the Belfry and then the bells went off at noon and it was so loud and hurty. I went to a little Dali museum but I couldn’t tell how many of them were real because there was a sign saying that most of them were for sale. So I think I paid 5 euros to go into someone’s Dali reprint store. Son of a…! But today totally made up for it times a thousand. I saw The Persistence of Memory (which is a lot tinier than you’d think), The Metamorphosis of Narcissus (which was so awesome that I almost cried), the animated short that Dali made with Walt Disney, and that really beautiful one about the bumble bee buzzing around a pomegranate.
Also this morning I took the Chunnel to London, which was not as spectacular as I’d hoped but still pretty cool. The British passport control officer asked me a bunch of questions to be sure I wasn’t trying to live here and then going through the Chunnel itself was pretty much like going through the bart tunnel under the San Francisco bay. Oh also I can’t even begin to tell you how great it is to be in an English-speaking country again. Now to hopefully get some dinner at wagamama! Delightful.
