A freaking huge post because I haven't posted anything in almost a month!
Yeah, sorry about that. I was busy umm, sinking into a giant depression from which I have recently emerged. But now it’s much better, and here are some pictures!
This is my grandpa! His name is Grandpa Dan. It’s on his birth certificate and everything. I hope I’m not getting this story wrong, but I’m pretty sure he lied about his age to get into the army at the end of World War II and then hunted Nazis in Austria and stayed in an ex-Nazi castle for a little while. Awesome.
This is my grandma! Her real name is Grandma Norma. She’s my dad’s mom, since I already showed you my mom’s mom a while ago. While she did not hunt Nazis in Europe, she is no less awesome than if she had. Especially when she tells us stories about my dad as a baby.
This is my dad! And somehow it took me until 1 in the morning to get this far, so I’ll have to come back and finish tomorrow. Later!
Okay, back! Yep, this is my dad. I just think he looks good is all, there’s no story to tell about it.
My mom! Also looking nice in my grandparents’ house.
Duncan and me in the Häagen-Dazs fancy boutique ice creamery in London a couple weeks ago, where we got this gigantic unholy amalgamation of ice creams and brownie and sauces and just thinking about it is giving me diabetes. Also, kind of related! Today I ate: grilled cheese, mac and cheese, and cheese pizza! Sick! Think I’m good on the eating front for a while.
Me at the Ping Pong dim sum restaurant!! I miss my hair being that long, but you can see how ratty it was, so it’s for the best. I’m kind of glad I didn’t shave my head after graduation as was my plan for a while, but I still think it would be pretty cool. Maybe someday.
Duncan at Ping Pong! So cute! Mmmmm, dim sum! One of Nature’s most perfect foods.
I won’t play my music out loud and I won’t eat smelly food! Adorable ad campaign on the London Underground. Or the “toob” if you will. Or the “tee-yoob” if you’re British. Also they think we pronounce “puma” wrong! Duncan alleges that it’s “pee-yuma.” Ha ha, it’s funny when a whole nation is wrong.
The metro station near Miguel’s bar in Brooklyn! Ooo, symmetrical.
Chappy, Jenny, and Rachel! The train took foreeeeever and it was especially crushing because we got to the platform just as the doors of the previous one were closing. Also, Jenny is Chappy’s ex-girlfriend that he’s still in love with and she lives in San Francisco but she flew over to New York for Chappy’s birthday weekend because she’s still in love with him. Yeah, I know, why doesn’t she just move over here because there are plenty of architecture firms in New York? but apparently she has the best architecture job in the world for someone who hasn’t gotten an advanced degree yet, so she’s staying there for a while.
Miguel’s bar has Hungry Hungry Hippos! Yay! I was the green hippo and I kept winning but then we realized the table was slanted towards me. Letdown!
Uhhhh, this strange girl who was at the bar by herself kept really aggressively trying to join our conversations and she was kind of mean and then she started doing this to Chappy and telling me to take a picture and it was uncomfortable. Plus she insulted my neighborhood without having been here in the last five years, so I hate her. Not that that’s saying much.
OMG NOW HIRING!!! Miguel found this and I love it. The store is actually called O.M.G. but I like to read it as though they’re just trying really hard to drum up enthusiasm for their lame, lame sales positions.
Rachel in a bar! This is a really gross and fuzzy picture, but Rachel looks pretty so here it is. Plus she threated to hurt me if she didn’t see it on here sometime soon.
My room! It looks a little different now, but this is the rough idea. Things that are awesome about my room:
– The metro is only a block away, and it’s an express stop!
– My roommate is friendly.
– It’s freaking huge by Manhattan standards.
– It’s also way cheap by Manhattan standards, which really depresses me if I think about it too hard.
– I was able to buy all the furniture, so I didn’t have to move anything!
– It fits a double bed, which is the first double bed I have ever owned.
– It is really cute and has lots of character (which is not a euphemism for crappy).
– It has a walk-in closet! In that you can walk into it. But you can’t walk around in it, only stand inside it and look at your stuff from inside the closet. Plans to rent it out for $3000/month are in the works.
– There’s delicious dollar pizza two blocks away.
– It also has enough room for a drafting table, which I am thinking about getting soon so I can give this cartooning thing a fair shot.
Me and cookie frolicking. Yaay!
Chung and Noaa came last weekend! I actually didn’t take any pictures of Noaa because it was rainy and gross all weekend so I wasn’t in the mood for much picture-taking, but here’s one of me and Chung enjoying the maaaagical egg salad finger sammiches at teatime last Tuesday!
Chung and I met in my first semester of college when he was the most spectacular TA for my first college-level CS class which almost killed me and I have no words to describe how amazing he is. This quote kind of illustrates it:
“ Now I can see why people want to be witches!”
(from when we went to Max Brenner Chocolates on Monday night with his girlfriend and he got a hot chocolate that he had to mix himself by stirring chocolate bits into milk over a candle-powered double boiler and he got really excited about getting to concoct his own super-chocolatey hot chocolate. I don’t know, you probably had to be there, but trust me it was the funniest thing to ever be said.)
Other random things that have happened recently, in ascending order of awesomeness:
– Shipping that package to Mike cost $350!!!! And like an idiot I didn’t get a quote before giving DHL my billing information. But then I called and it turns out it costs $450 to send a 15-pound package to Ghana and there is no cheaper option. Because apparently they have to charter a private jet to fly it directly there. But at least now he doesn’t have to eat bush rats to get his protein, because I included enough beef jerky in there to last him a very long time.
– I twisted my knee skiing two weekends ago, but at least it happened on the superfantastic free Google ski trip! It’s almost all better now but sometimes it wakes me up with pain and this angers me.
– I got really stressed out over life in general and lost a lot of hair, but now I’m losing it not as quickly. I can now run my fingers through it without coming out with fistfuls of hair. So, win. I guess.
– Noaa and her friend Pammy and I went to the Doughnut Plant and got delicious doughnuts and saw Ugly Betty! Like, as in America Ferrara! Not just an ugly girl with braces.
– When Catie came to visit a while ago, we went to dinner with her cousin who’s a junior at NYU and her amazing friends, and at one point there was a lull in the conversation and one of the guys said, “I would eat a beating heart.” Hahahahaha, what the hell.
– David sent me his old wacom tablet that he doesn’t use anymore!!! This is amaaaaazing!! I can’t wait to get a desk and start using it and be like a real artist!!
– I’m going to California in a month!! Yaaaaaaay! April 20th to the 27th!!! I cannot wait. It kind of hurts. I want to be there now. But my parents are coming tomorrow! So that’s awesome! And also it’s technically later today, so I better go to bed. Later!
